Formula Guide
It's important that you make the right choice for your
baby. So if you're using infant formula for the first
time, you need to be well informed. As an overview formulas
are:
- Made from cows' milk, soy-milk or goats'
milk.
- Contain added vitamins, minerals and important fats and proteins.
Some may contain additional beneficial ingredients such as nucleotides
and long chain polyunsaturated fatty acids
LCPs (also known as omega 3 and omega 6) and
Bifidus (good bacteria).
- Developed for different age groups, e.g.
newborn – 6 months (From Birth or "Starter"),
6 months – 1 year (Follow-on).
- Governed by strict regulations to ensure
the nutritional composition is as close as possible to breastmilk.
So here are some simple steps to help you
to choose a formula:
- Ask your Child Health Nurse for help.
- Start with a cows' milk formula. Most
babies thrive on these.
- Choose the right formula for your baby's
age.
