More

Now that he is more mobile, he will be 'in to every thing'. He is not intending to be naughty but is becoming more interested in the world around him.

Now is the time to remove any precious objects out of reach. Also watch for small things like buttons or small toys. Your toddler will probably put everything into his mouth so remove small objects that could be swallowed and cause choking.

Generally speaking your child will be more interested in doing things than in eating.

Between 1 to 3 years your child will likely learn to :

  • Drink from a cup.
  • Kick a ball.
  • Build a tower.
  • Jump on the spot.
  • Talk (by 18 months)
  • Walk alone.
  • Toilet training underway.
  • Explore, climb and gets into mischief.
  • Have imaginative play.
  • Have definite likes and dislikes.
  • Feed himself.

During this period, he'll also be toilet training, grow a full set of 20 teeth and change body shape with his legs becoming longer and thinner and his protruding stomach disappearing.

NOTE: Every baby is different so don’t be concerned if your baby is slower at reaching some of these milestones. If you have any concerns talk to your child health nurse or GP.
